GradStudy Non-logged-in FAQ

Do you have questions about Graduate Study in Psychology?

I'm interested in going back to school for a graduate degree. How can the Graduate Study in Psychology database can help me?

The Graduate Study in Psychology database allows you to search and compare admissions information for a large group of masters and doctoral programs at schools and departments of psychology in the United States and Canada. The programs listed also provide general information regarding the degrees offered and contact information for each program in case you have additional questions. A preview of what this looks like can be found here Preview Graduate Study in Psychology.

I am interested in graduate school, but I am not even sure where to start. How can the Graduate Study in Psychology database can help me?

The Graduate Study in Psychology database is most useful to students who have already done some basic reflection and made some decisions about what field in psychology they are interested in and what degree level they are seeking, but who are just beginning to search for the specific programs to which they are interested in applying. If you are not yet at this stage, it might be helpful to look at some of the resources on apa.org about graduate study in psychology (Grad FAQs or Application Video Series) or to purchase a resource book (e.g., "Getting In: A Step-by-Step Plan for Gaining Admission to Graduate School In Psychology").

Can I search by different criteria like my state, kind of program, or degree offered?

Yes! Schools and programs can be searched by inputting the institution name or by searching using the state/province, degree sought, or subfield within psychology.

Where can I see what schools and programs are currently listed in the database?

Please refer to our list of current schools and programs to see which have submitted their information for inclusion in the database in the current year. Please note that not all schools have responded to our request for their information. Please also note that in a given year which schools participate in the database fluctuates based on whether they have responded to our request in a given year or not (i.e., some schools may be included in some years, but not in other years). We are always encouraging programs to participate because we know that the database is more useful to students the greater the number of schools who provide their information. If you find that a school you want to attend is not listed, please let them know you would like to see them participate in the future.

What is the relationship between the Graduate Study in Psychology database and accreditation status?

APA Accreditation is a separate process from the listings in the Graduate Study in Psychology database. If you are interested in a degree in health service psychology (HSP), you may want to know if the program is accredited, and current accreditation status can be found on the Commission on Accreditation (COA) webpage. Both accredited and non-accredited HSP programs are listed in the database. Additionally, it is important to note that accreditation does not apply to non-HSP fields (i.e., fields other than clinical, counseling, or school psychology), so none of those programs will show up on the accreditation website or as being accredited in the database because accreditation does not apply to these fields (i.e., it is not within COA's scope).

I have specific questions about a program (e.g., whether they'll accept courses I took elsewhere, whether I can do some courses online) or about my specific situation (e.g., I'm an international student and have questions about visa or internship sites). What should I do?

Once you have determined that you are interested in a particular program, but now have specific questions about it that are not included on their listing in the Graduate Study in Psychology database, please message the listed contact for help with questions that pertain to your specific situation.

What's the difference between the single purchase option and the educator purchase?

The educator purchase is meant for those educators who want to purchase a bulk subscription of codes to distribute to multiple students at their institution. This is a great option for professors, librarians, academic advisors, department chairs, or primary investigators of research labs who would like to provide access to Graduate Study in Psychology to their students. As the name implies, the single purchase option provides one subscription code for one person to access the database. It is not transferable once redeemed and is not meant for group/multiple access. If more than one person needs access, educators should be purchasing multiple copies of the database.

When does my subscription start—once I make my purchase or once I activate the code?

The time limit for your subscription code begins once you create a login and activate the code. Once the code is active, the countdown for our subscription starts (3 months, 6 months, or one year subscription).

What forms of payment are accepted?

Graduate Study in Psychology database can be purchased online using American Express, MasterCard, and Visa. At the present time, we are not set up to handle other forms of payment.

I need to use an invoice for payment. What should I do?

In the case of educator purchases only, we can work with institutions who are making bulk purchases (5 or more) to be invoiced for access to the database. Be aware that because this process involves several departments (e.g., Education Directorate, Finance, IT), it can take several weeks to complete payment and requires manual creation of the access codes. For simplest and fastest access, please use the website to pay by American Express, MasterCard, or Visa.
